Finally had my first and hardest temptation yesterday, and surprisingly it wasn’t even cheese! Although watching Raymond Blanc on the old box last night, singing praises for the terroir of my home probably didn’t help much either.
No, the offending item was a simple Chocolate chip cookie. Not even a particularly fantastic one. A packet
of 5 from the local supermarket’s
in-store bakery, always a little on
the dry side.
Our eldest is always starving when she finishes school, and the little’un not wanting to be outdone has to have whatever the other is having! So I usually take a milk brioche or other to help fill that gap until dinner time. The girls love to share with their bestests and so before I can even say “cheese” all of its been devoured by four ravenous little girls. But yesterday, the packet of 5 meant one was left behind.
I ignored it. Left it in its bag on top of the pushchair and started to head home. O my lordy that was a long hard walk home! The girls were great, A whizzing off on her scooter and E happily finishing off her cookie in the pushchair. But the weight of that one cookie eyeing me up, winking at me was, well just so so tempting!
It was like it had a little voice, whispering sweet nothings to me, no-one will know, just eat it and blame the itch tomorrow on this freezing weather, go on, eat me!
I stuffed it into the pushchair pocket so that I didn’t have to look at it, ignored it and left it there. I’m pleased to say I didn’t eat it. When we got home I left it in the pocket, in the hallway out of sight and out of mind and was lured into the kitchen with the lovely smell of duck in the slow cooker.
My intentions were to tell hubby to go get it and get rid, preferably discreetly and via his tummy, so that temptation was gone. But can you believe it I forgot! As I was getting the girls ready for school this morning, I spot the pushchair and the first thing that came to mind was not the freezing cold weather but THAT cookie in the pushchair!
Off to find a dairy free cookie recipe to try out, can anyone recommend one? And have you given in to temptation recently?
